This is one of the most remarkable shows for me, for there was the debut of "Immortality", and "Immortality" is my favorite Pearl Jam song. At the Boston Garden "Immortality" was performed with completely different lyrics to its album version, and at the next show at Orpheum Theatre Ed will change lyrics again, leaving only part of the chorus: 'Take me as is, I don't need this, I die just to live... immortality...' Only a couple of days passed since the news of Curt Kobain's suicide had come, and many suggested (and do so now) that "Immortality" was solely dedicated to Curt, that it was a sort of a tombstone for his grave, for eternal memory. Also check plain Dave A. drums beating for the outro of this song, and feel the difference with great Matt-lucky-we've-got-him-Cameron's playing!
"Immortality" was not the only remarkable moment of this great show. Audience support was fantastic, the band was in great form. Mike played very nice altered solo for "Garden", Improv (often called Hold On, but this is not the Pearl Jam "Hold On" song) before Jeremy was lengthy and nice, Eddie performed a drunken version of "Happy Trails" song a-capella with "No-Code-man" Matt Lukin. And in the end of "Rockin' In The Free World" Ed smashed a hole in the stage with the remains of his mic stand.
AVI variant is an audience video of the full show. DVD video is an MTV short broadcast of selected songs with an interviews with Eddie and Jeff.
